Position Overview
The Director of Education implements, manages, and oversees Encore’s established educational programming. The role is the operational leader of the Education department — bringing the curriculum frameworks designed with the Executive and Artistic Directors to life through excellent execution, instructor management, and continuous program refinement.
This is primarily an administrative leadership role. Teaching opportunities are optional and welcomed, provided they don’t interfere with program management duties.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborative Program Leadership
- Report directly to the Executive Director; collaborate closely with the Artistic Director as part of the leadership team.
- Refine and adapt existing program frameworks to meet community needs.
- Participate in curriculum development sessions to enhance Encore’s educational offerings.
- Contribute frontline insights to organizational strategic planning.
Program Implementation and Operations
- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational excellence across all educational initiatives.
- Implement established systems, policies, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality.

- Conduct quarterly program reviews to assess quality, enrollment, profitability, and process improvement.
Curriculum and Community
- Supervise, recruit, and train teachers, mentors, and guest artists within established frameworks.
- Build and maintain community partnerships — schools, theaters, arts organizations, accessibility advocates, and higher-education partners.
- Ensure all programs uphold Encore’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion through consistent implementation.
Student Development Pathways
- Coordinate internship and college credit opportunities with educational partners.
- Implement educational pathways that connect classroom learning to production participation.
- Utilize established assessment tools aligned with Encore’s educational mission.
Production Integration
- Integrate educational programming with Encore’s production calendar to maximize learning opportunities.
- Coordinate with Production Manager and Programs Directors to identify educational opportunities within productions.
- Support casting processes by preparing students for auditions; advise creative teams on young artists’ abilities.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain organized Google Drive folders following Drive Structure and Production Folder Organization Guide.
- Generate regular program reports using consistent formatting standards.
- Communicate program conflicts early; resolve scheduling challenges collaboratively.
- Document program evolution and maintain institutional knowledge.
Financial Accountability
- Follow Encore’s established budget tracking protocols including milestone-based reporting.
- Submit quarterly financial reports detailing program profitability and expense management.
- Maintain transparent documentation of all educational program expenditures.
- Coordinate payment processing for instructors and guest artists.
Qualifications
Essential
- Strong program management and operational leadership skills.
- Experience in arts education, theater, or youth programming.
- Budget management and financial tracking experience.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Comfort with Google Drive, calendar tools, and collaborative platforms.
Preferred
- Background in theatrical production (educational or professional).
- Summer camp or youth program management experience.
- Accessibility programming or special-needs education experience.
- Higher-education partnership coordination experience.
- Familiarity with assessment and evaluation of educational programs.

Working Conditions
- Commitment: Part-time, year-round, with flexible scheduling. Primarily afternoons, evenings, and some weekends.
- Schedule: Heavier collaboration during production Pre-Production, Rehearsal, and Tech phases.
- Environment: Encore offices, partner venues, and classrooms. Hybrid remote/on-site.
- Reports to: Executive Director.
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience and Encore’s annual budget. Fundraising support role only — not responsible for grant writing.
Success Measures
- Enrollment growth across educational programs while quality holds.
- Program profitability and sustainable budgeting.
- Quarterly program reviews completed for every program.
- Strengthened pathways from classroom to production participation.
- Improved student retention and engagement.
- Continued growth of partnerships with higher-education institutions (Capstone Campus) and accessibility-focused organizations.
