Junior Stages

The foundation of Encore’s educational pathway, creating a structured progression that nurtures artistic growth and development for our youngest artists.

Overview

The Junior Stages serve as the entry tier of the Stages. Three escalating formats meet young artists where they are — from a first taste of performance to their first full-length musical with sophisticated production values.

Students typically progress through Junior Stages before moving on to 0.0 - Signature Stages.

The Three Junior Stage Formats

Camps — Ages 6–9

Presented by the Youth Leadership Program. Week-long intensive format with YLP participants acting as camp counselors. Charming, supportive, fun. ~30-minute performances. The most common first-introduction to Encore.

Junior Shows — Most Foundational Full-Length Productions

30–45 minute productions with simplified storylines that allow young performers to focus on basic performance skills — voice projection, stage presence, ensemble work. Colorful costumes, accessible music, interactive staging. The environment where mistakes become learning opportunities.

Emerging Artist Shows — Next-Step Productions

60–90 minute productions providing a pathway for young artists to embrace greater challenges. Deeper character work, more demanding vocal techniques, collaborative ensemble skills. Enhanced production values with detailed costumes, sophisticated lighting, and fuller orchestration. Students begin to take on backstage responsibilities and develop leadership skills.

Why the Three-Tier Junior Structure Works

Each Junior Stage builds on the previous, with clear expectations at each level. Students respond to the achievement-based system — they find deep satisfaction in mastering their current level before advancing, and value the accomplishment of growing into the next challenge.
