Show with a Pro brings the exceptional talents of experienced creative teams and professional actors directly to our aspiring young professionals, providing an invaluable bridge between educational theater and professional practice. Professional guest artists remain present throughout the entire rehearsal process and conduct specialized workshops, providing direct guidance and mentorship.
As part of the cast or creative team, students gain the opportunity to learn from professionals who serve as role models — demonstrating professional rehearsal practices and respect for the creative process.

A Signature Show is already operating at high educational rigor with full production values. Show with a Pro adds the additional layer of integrated professional collaborators. The young artists experience what it’s like to work alongside pros — the rehearsal-room expectations, the pace, the precision — while still being held in Encore’s educational framework.
Signature Annual Production
A Christmas Carol: The New Musical is Encore’s signature annual Show with a Pro production. A unique musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic featuring themes of generosity, family, hope for change, and holiday spirit. Fosters traditions of joy and community connection; creates enduring memories for performers and audiences.
Where Show with a Pro Fits
Show with a Pro is the advanced format within 0.0 - Signature Stages — the highest rung of 0.0 - The Stages of Encore. The young artists who participate have typically already moved through 0.0 - Junior Stages and at least one Signature Show.
Operational Notes
The Producer and Production Manager handle hiring the pros — see Creative Team Proposal Template for the standard outreach format. Professional guests need:
- Clear scope and expectations defined up front.
- Encore’s mission and educational philosophy oriented from day one (point them at This is Encore and Ten Commandments).
- An assigned Encore staff partner (often the Director or Music Director) to translate between professional practice and Encore’s culture.
- Realistic understanding that they’re working with young artists, not pros — even at the Signature level.
